Ancient India Blog

Ancient India Blog Post

The history of India began with the evidence of human of anatomically modern humans, as long as 75 thousand years ago. The Indus valley (Which was located in South Asia) spread in the northwestern part of the Indian Subcontinent during 3300 to 1300 BCE in. During the Stone Age of the Indian civilization isolated remains of the Homo erectus found in the Narmada Valley in central India. The Ancient history of region includes some of South Asia’s oldest settlements and also some of its big civilization. The Vedic Period was made by the indo-Aryan culture with the texts of Vedas which were sacred to Hindus.

The Vedas were some of the oldest texts in India. The Vedic period contributed the foundations of Hinduism and other cultures. The caste system when from, Brahmin who were priests and Kings, Kshatriya who are usually the warriors, The Vaishyas are warriors, and finally the sudras, which are the lowest of the lowest. There is one more class called the untouchables, but the upper classes are not allowed to interact with them. The Law says that if the Brahmins interact with the Untouchables, they get lowered a rank in the caste system. The Government can’t say anything about it because of the many people BELIEVE that it is not alright to touch the untouchables because of the Law.

From what I learned the world seems to be a little better but still the same because there is still A LOT of poverty currently in India. It surprised me how people treated the untouchables, and I feel like untouchables could have had more rights and such, but the law didn’t allow it. It didn’t surprise me that they would have a caste system that would degrade humans (The Untouchables and such).  It’s interesting to know how the society was before modern civilization occurred and how people treated other people.
